Please let me begin by saying that Fire is not a joking matter – I hope that if you don’t see the
benefit of having a monitored burglary and fire system installed in your home,
you at least exercise a couple of the pointers I gave at the meeting.
    Your Life/Safety is my business!
Before I recap my notes, I want to draw your attention to a fire that
occurred last night (August 11, 2010).  A woman was rescued from a fire in which she was
sleeping or unconscious perhaps due to the smoke?   She was lucky.
    http://kdka.com/local/lightning.strike.fire.2.1856171.html
Fire Facts For You To Consider:
*a fire occurs every 61 seconds in the US
*9 people die every day because of fire
*nearly 4000 Americans lose their lives to fire each year
*1.5 million fires occur each year
*84% of all fire deaths occur in the home
*$15.5 billion is lost in property related fires
*PA ranked #11 of 50 states (1 is worst and 50 is best in the country) for F.D.R. (fire death rate)
*WV ranked #1 of 50 states – almost double the F.D.R. of PA
Take a look at this video to see how fast a fire can spread!  Within 45 seconds the room is completely
covered in smoke.  Don’t even think that you can walk into a room that has caught fire.  Prevention is the key.

Ten Tips That Can Save Your Life:
    1. keep an eye on the stove top because cooking is the leading cause of  home fires and fire injuries.
    2. make sure that there is at least 3 feet of distance around space heaters as they are the second leading cause of fire deaths and injuries
    3. keep matches and lighters out of reach of children – those under 5 years old are 8 times more likely to die by playing with heat source
    4. plan a home fire escape plan and mark 2 ways out of each room
    5. stay low (table top height) and cover your mouth – gasses, smoke and heated air rise upward
    6. 2nd floor bedrooms should have a fire escape ladder readily accessible  at all times
    7. get out fast and rescue from outside the home
    8. make sure that you determine a meeting place in case of a fire so you know if everyone is accounted for
    9. install smoke alarms – 74% of home fire deaths occurred in homes with no smoke alarms or alarms that weren’t working
    and finally…
    10.  One of the most effective ways to protect against a fire is “monitored smoke alarms .  If you are sleepy or overcome by smoke or
carbon monoxide, the “monitored smoke detector will send a signal to our Central Station alerting that a fire has been identified and
we will alert the fire department immediately.  Vector Security puts high priority on monitored smoke/fire alarms and we encourage everyone take advantage of our award winning central station monitoring – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are there even if you aren’t!

    January 8, 2010

Today we discussed a few different things in addition to our usual schedule. One of which regarded our new brochure that will be available in the next couple weeks.

David Mitchell of David Mitchell and Associates shared some great information with us about his services and field- Accounting, Taxes, & Payroll.

Dave offers free consultations specializing in small businesses and his company prepares all types of tax returns.

Dave has a great reputation with his clients and is always willing to help answer questions.  Here are a few helpful and informative points from his presentation today.  If you are looking for an CPA, have questions about his services, or would like more information about Dave’s points below, contact him at 412.831.9808   or davemitchell@comcast.net . His office is located on McMurray Road near the YMCA.

Helpful information and tips from David Mitchell of David Mitchell and Associates, Inc.:

    1. The government needs tax revenues to operate.
    2. They accomplish that through a variety of taxes.  Mostly income taxes.
    3. They try to maximize their tax revenues through audits of the people paying those taxes.
    4. Those who do not keep good records or those who are not honest with their deductions can end up having the IRS take money from them by assessing additional taxes on them.
    5. My accounting system is set up in a way to simplify people’s record keeping allowing them to keep track of their profits on an ongoing basis.
    6. My system also allows for easy and accurate preparation of their tax returns.
